It always shocks me when Noah asks about 9/11. I forget that something that is so deeply engrained in my memory from the moment the first plane hit to the end of that awful day, is just something he reads, or sees the footage of on TV. For him, it is what pearl harbor or d day is for me. I know when it is, I know what happened, but it doesnt pack the same emotional punch that 9/11 does. I wish that I could say I think his generation will be spared their own pearl harbor or 9/11 but it seems humanity never really learns and for every terrorist we kill or capture ten more will take their place. While we remember those lost today, I think we must also remember, especially in light of the threats made against us today, living in fear is letting them win.
