It appears that Adrian Peterson has uprooted a large tree and bludgeoned his child with it, endangering the kids life. Whats that you say? It was a small tree branch, like a dowel rod?.... Whoopins are appropriate for disciplining kids. Hurting them is not a whoopin. The fact that you are whooped is the punishment, they dont really hurt,... they dont injure, for sure. They smart, They express quick justice and immediate forgiveness, and remain a deterrent. Grounding or time outs linger and brew resentment, a real-time pouring of salt in the wound which strains relationships. That should only be used as a preventative measure, towards a willful child who will insist on endangering himself otherwise. This is my view based on my experience as a whooped kid. I do not fear or resent either of my folks, and have a good relationship with both of them, even though they misbehave from time to time.
