It could be argued that the last time the United States became militarily involved with a sovereign nation that actually attacked us was in 1941. After World War II, the United States became the worlds police force. We always had a good excuse, but we committed troops to Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Bosnia, Kuwait and Iraq. For various reasons that had virtually nothing to do with our national security or actual defense. Iraq was attacked for a second time, based on faulty intelligence and we overthrew the government and deposed its legitimate leader, mainly because we did not like Saddam Husseins regime. Furthermore, we install the government of our choice through the pretext of free elections that executed Iraqs legitimate leader. With the exception of Korea (because I wasnt born yet). I supported every one of these actions and still do. I mention all this because Vladimir Putin is now doing the same thing. It is his claim that the ethnic Russian citizens of Crimea do not want to be politically Allied with Western Europe and feel more ethnically tied to Russia. The Ukraine has been united with Russia/USSR since before the lifetime of the oldest person living there. Russia also a very strong military and economic ties to that region. In my opinion Vladimir Putin is using much the same logic as United States used since the Spanish-American war to take military action against a sovereign nation to overreach of the nation declare their own sovereignty. President Obama claims that the Russian government is a violation of international law. And that President Putin has no right to take military action. There is no question that both President Putin and President Obama are hypocrites and one definitely does not like the other. Realizing that simple fact and broadcast it to the world. President Obamas response to all of this is typical. He has done nothing more than make hollow threats towards Russia and then send Secretary of State John Kerry to Kiev with a fistful of loan guarantees totaling $1 billion that we can definitely not afford along with a mouth full of promises that we cannot keep. President Putin of course claims he was drawing most of his troops from Crimea. The statements he has made that speaking have proven to the world just how fast he can move his troops wherever he wants them to be able to take whatever action. He feels that he must. To move as many troops as President Putin did would take the United States a full week at best and probably a little longer. President Putin has the support from the Chinese and the North Koreans. President Obamas most vocal support comes from Germany who also fears Russian economic sanctions. Barack Obama over the years has made us impotent. He draws lines in the send that once crossed. He will not respond to. President Theodore Roosevelt, using an old African proverb said, speak softly but carry a big stick President Obama on the other hand speak very loudly and carries a twig. The situation is changing almost hour by hour. President Obama is lying in the sand and while he really was to draw it someplace, he doesnt know where or how to respond. Once is crossed. There was no question the Cold War is starting again and will possibly warm up very soon and perhaps in time become hot. Right now we do not know.
