It frustrates me to no end that some of the writers I edit put Source of images: images.google in their articles as a citation method, even after Ive previously said that this was unacceptable. Do I really have to explain (to someone who was a high school teacher when I was in high school, and thus was supposed to be teaching my generation about academic integrity) that Google Images is a search engine, not an art site? And that it thus does not own any of the copyrights for the images that one finds through it? And that all Google Image search results literally have a button that says Visit Page that takes you to the source page, so theres really no excuse for not giving the proper image owners the credit that is due them? And that not doing so is tantamount to plagiarism, which yknow is kind of a big deal? I shudder to think what might happen if I tried to explain anything as complex as free-use image licenses. Heads might explode. This is why the IPR fight matters; so few people understand why giving proper credit to creative work is important. Brb shapeshifting into dragon and breathing fire at EVERYTHING
