It has been a while since I posted a positive story here. Face it, the world is suffering from a bad dose of crap on crap on crap at the moment. But someone I knew in a former life is trying to do something about it, one orphan at a time, starting in Ghana. Read about Carolyn Eggarts project, and the real difference it makes to the kids, and tell me you arent moved by it. I know I will cop the usual oh we should be looking after our own, first from some, but honestly, Australia should be bigger than that. We should be looking after our own AS WELL, not INSTEAD OF. But that still means we need to help someone, rather than complain about those who dare to help people who arent from here. Your vote can help Carolyn fix some of the crap infecting the world at the moment - unlike a lot of requests for online support, just a simple click, like the usual requests for likes or names on a petition, there is real cash at stake for the project of the volunteer with the most votes. If you dont want to take my word for it, feel free to read about the other finalists as well, and vote for the one you think is most worthy (but I hope it is Carolyn). Even better, if you are able to make a contribution to her project yourself, please do so! When you look at the massive impact that a relatively small amount of money can make to these projects, it is a fairly easy way to make you feel good. But the best possible outcome would be if you feel inspired to volunteer yourself. You dont have to go to Ghana, although again, great if you choose to. There are plenty of other local organisations who would love a hand. If you are in Melbourne and have a few hours spare, head down to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, and ask how you can help.
