There is a fair bit of controversy surrounding this issue, local environmental non-profits want more rigorous standards for point source pollution (i.e. industrial stormwater runoff), and of course, some businesses want business as usual. The good coming out of the latest proposal it is the numbers will reflect more realistic consumption rates, although to try to find some middle ground the plan has changed the estimated cancer risk number (though its still pretty small risk at 1 in 100,000 vs. 1 in 1 million). Im quite sure im at higher risk from other cancers (cancer.org/cancer/cancerbasics/lifetime-probability-of-developing-or-dying-from-cancer), so before I go to the mattresses against the change, personally Id push for cleaner air to protect from more immediate concerns such as Asthma and chronic airway issues as is being address by the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalitions Duwamish Valley Healthy Communities Initiative, and continue to take on urban and agricultural runoff as they are by far the highest source of pollution currently entering Puget Sound.
