It has been extra busy today at Wonky Towers on the first day of our volunteering weekend. In total we had a brilliant 16 people come and work their socks off during the day. How amazing that people are willing to spend their spare time working so hard for free to help us help the animals in our care. Animals who have so often been let down by the people who should have cared for them. There has been a lot of work carried on the dog area where we will be creating a wonderful play and exercise garden for the dogs whilst they are staying at Wonky Towers with their very own trees and play equipment. A lot of work has also been done on the area where our new cat pens will be sited and the bushes and trees on the drive have been pruned as well. A fantastic days work and we are all set to continue tomorrow. If you dont mind getting your hands dirty and are up for some manuel work then please message us. Thank you so much to the people who called today in response to our plea for extra large crates. We now have been able to move two more of our stray cats in to much roomier accomodation. Three of our kittens left us today for their new foster home where they will receive the very best care until they are vaccinated and old enough to be adopted. A baby hedgehog came and will be staying for bed, breakfast and evening meal and will then off to a hedgehog rescue. We also had a call about a 12 week old collie pup with such severe glucoma that her eye is at risk of rupturing. Her family have tried so hard to help her but are unable to manage the finanacial implications of not just surgery this time but the risk of the same thing happening to her other eye. We collected her earlier and tonight she has moved to Maesglas Hospital in Brackla where she will have surgery to remove the eye tomorrow. Her name is Gwen and she is a sweet dog and heartbreaking that this has happened at such a young age. She will be on pain relief tonight as glucoma is a very painful condition but she will be much more comfortable once the eye is removed and she has healed.
