It has been extremely difficult being on Facebook the last two days, so I have been trying to stay away. Every other post has me in tears. While I am thrilled to see people talking in a very real way about mental illness, recent events are a stark reminder that not everyone wins their battle. My son is Bipolar. I believe he has been bipolar since birth. His first hospitalization and initial diagnosis was at age 12. There have been countless hospitalizations in the 8 years since. Depression and mental illness have been a part of my life for more than 20 years, and I am still at a loss at what to do for my son. I try to be there, to listen, to support him, to remind him that it will get better, but I know when he hits rock bottom he could easily cross that line. This has been a very difficult week for Tyler, and I see him struggling with the darkness. Tomorrow we are going to attend our first Bipolar support group meeting. I hope he finds the help he so desperately needs there. Not real sure what I am trying to convey here, so I will just leave it at, be kind to each other. Life is hard enough as it is.
