It has been raining in Metro Vancouver and the gloomy surrounding makes me miss my son more. It s been a week now since he left for Japan for a one year scholarship studies, and the current news items around my city just remind me so much of him too --- politics, (nee political bickering), transit, crimes, and recently, one that tragically involves a 17 yr old, a teenager like him. I know that if hes around here and not on the other side of the world with a time zone in reverse to that of ours, he would be so much involved and probably blogging about it already, maybe lobbying for high risk offenders to stay where they should belong or for safety programs to be enforced more effectively. I know for sure he will be at the Take Back Surrey - Rally 4 Change on Sunday, way more intense and earlier than his mom :) I am certain about this because I just came across this blog of his - a letter he did in memory of another youth who also perished just ONE YEAR AGO - another unspeakable lost to society and disappointment to community. In his letter, he calls on the public to be engaged. With the coming municipal elections this is so timely: I’m hoping that I can strike a chord in some of you and engage discussion amongst yourselves and to others about your experiences and your thoughts, and speak up on city policies that you don’t like, or maybe find a reason not to like. This is one of his writings that lifts my emotion high being the one who reared him seeing how he has grown to be not just the intelligent, smart, well proficient young man that he is but also one who is sensible and compassionate. Such are his words: It might comfort you in knowing that this is an issue that I know that I’m going to look back at for the rest of my life, throughout the places and the interesting worlds that my blogging efforts or political issues involvement takes me to. I feel as if this is going to become a referential example for me of a situation where something was needed and then left amiss. I don’t think that I will ever forget. Read more on the link below.
