It has been so long I cant remember which number I left off at, approximate now, but will add a recent burst, all seen in Spain: #22: Marsella, 2014, Spain, Dir. Belén Macías-- Excellent story about a road trip of a biological and adoptive mother with the child. Best is that the plot is not predictable, usual clues (for example a broken tail light on a car) do not lead to a expected outcome, good acting. Perfect film for a womens studies film series. #23: Corazón de león, 2014, Argentina, Marcos Carnevale, comedy, enjoyable and engaging, love story between a very short man and a tall woman, should get wider distribution. #24: La fille du 14 juillet, 2013, France, Antonin Peretjako, I HATED this film although many film friends loved it, calling it Rohmer on crack. I find the sense of humor, which is intentionally ridiculous, only grating, even when some ideas when told separate form the film are amusing--for ex, France limits August vacations to one week due to the crisis. #25: Viaggo sola/ Viajo sola, 2014, Italy, Maria Tognazzi--Went to a colloquium with the director and main actress Buy, so had to see the film, about a single woman who works as a secret inspector of luxury hotels. This strikes me as the perfect airplane movie, its also sponsored by an international consortium of hoteliers--a new wrinkle on product placement. Would recommend it as an average offering for an entertaining evening when it comes up on Netflix. The topic of freedom/ solitude of the single woman today is greatly overshadowed by the construct of social privilege.
