It has come to my attention that a so called friend feels the need to post something very personal about myself on Facebook, with hopes to hurt and knock me down even more during this difficult time that I and my family are going through. I never had any intention to post anything like this about myself out there on Facebook because its really nobodys business and its not that big of a deal. But do to the circumstances I will not let someone else dictate who I am just out of spite. Im not ashamed of who I am. I was always raised to take PRIDE in who you are and in this case there is no difference. My name is Michael Kane Brett and I am Gay. With that being said I will not be pushed around, I will stand up for myself. If you cant handle it you can delete and block me or never speak to me again your choice. I spent many years trying to be something Im not, but not anymore. I have my family and my true friends that accept and love me for who I am and thats all I need. For the person whos intention was to out me and belittle me, I want you to know that I will always stand up and stand tall for who I am, no matter who or what tries tear me down. Tomorrow is Independence Day, and today I declare my Independence as a strong, confident and proud gay man. For the people who are like me out or not, stay true to who you are and know that we are not alone and one day we will win this fight against hate and inequality.
