It is 2:30am. Just woke up for a round of early morning meds. Trying so hard to avoid the IV wonder drug that immediately puts me back into mindless peace. Pain Control...that is THEIR label for this injustice ..NOT MINE!! The doctors tell me I have an irritating ulcer that is the culprit to my formerly unnamed agony. For shits and giggles...I will call it Bob! Those that know me well, will recognize the humor of this action! I have a new chatty Cathy neighbor. A poor lonely, elderly woman who is fighting the late stages of lung disease. As much sympathy as I have with her plight...I find that my patience has worn down right along with the pain killers that I am only allowed to swallow every 4 hours! I realize I ramble .. (unfortunate side effects of lack of sleep)..my understanding nurse Jessica has gratuitously brought me a pair of earplugs and a pillow case to tie around my eyes to block out my room mates incessant coughing, questions, and listings of her current ailments. The sheet blocks out the bright overhead light she insists stays on at all hours. Have I mentioned that I am oh so ready to leave here and return home, where the only noise at this hour is the low background voices of Nick at Night . But for now..meds have been distributed and swallowed and earplugs have been secured into place. Time to bind the eyes and hope for another 4 hours of blessed unconsciousness!!!
