Jamal Benomar جمال بنعمر 3 hrs · Statement from the Office of the Special Adviser on #Yemen The Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Yemen, #Jamal_Benomar, concluded on Friday his three-day visit to Sa’ada. He had two rounds of consultations with the Houthi leader, Abdelmalik Al-Houthi. The first meeting on Wednesday lasted three hours. The second meeting on Thursday lasted nearly seven hours. The Special Adviser noted that he attempted to bridge the gaps amongst the different sides. An agreement was reached on a set of points that shall form the basis of an agreement between the relevant parties, based on the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference. Following his second round of consultations late Thursday night, the Special Adviser was informed of the deteriorating situation in Sana’a. Mr. Benomar expressed deep regrets regarding this development, including the use of violence, while utmost efforts were underway in order to reach a peaceful solution to the crisis. The Special Adviser reiterated the need to cease all violent acts immediately. He expressed hope that the relevant parties would exercise restraint and act in a manner that achieves the highest national interests of Yemen. Sa’ada, 19 September 2014
