It is a rare good luck for me to have attended two exceptional educational establishments during my high school years. The first one is Rangpur Zilla School which is now 182 years old and one of the oldest in the country; an ancient Institution truly if I may put it in this way. The school was established in 1832 by local Zamindars, sponsored by Maharaja of Cooch Bihar and inaugurated by Lord William Bentinck - the then Governor-General of Bengal as we know this famousness from our school history book. We recall: He outlawed ‘satidah-protha’ in one hand and oppressed indigo planters unscrupulously on the other. The other one is Rajshahi Cadet College – this boarding school, embedded in framework of military discipline, is famous for having brought forth consistently excellent academic achievements and outstanding personalities. If I just take closer look at my year group [30 students approx] I find there professors, commission-chairman, ambassador, generals, captains of mercantile marine, CEOs/CFO, architect, banker and a huge spectrum of physicians i.a. - simply all illustrious elites. Another plus: It is one of the most beautiful schools of BD, located directly on the bank of the river Padma in beautiful serene surroundings of a picturesque small village Mukhtarpur by Sarda. The campus is fitted with a small hospital, power station, bank and postal facilities. The uniqueness is complemented and rounded off by an elegant academic building in the middle. Ah well, and as a sidenote; I had a common friend in both of these high schools - Mizanur Rahman Koli. [az 2510]
