It is a sad day. When the kids were little, before many of my nieces were born, we began a tradition of having a family hydride on this weekend. Some of our hayrides saw 3 generations climb aboard the hay wagon. Not all the riders were human. Out canines family members: Shelby, Tippy and Murphy too have ridden Some saw shorts and t-shirts; some snow suits and mittens. We have had flat tires, loose lug nuts. One hydride even cAlled upon an appearance of the tooth fairy when Courtneys tooth fell out. We have had exchange students from Austria, Brazil, Chile and Finland. Last year the 4th generation, Arianna, was part of the fun. For the 25th anniversary hydride, special sweatshirts were made for all who rode. But time marches on. This weekend was instead spent celebrating Nugents and Rudolphs. In two weeks the family will gather again for the marriage of Lizzy and Mike. So for the first time in many years, we will not be scrambling to find hay bales and unloading the hay wagon of the merchandise. Phone calls, emails and texts will not plan the menu. Our house will instead be free from the laughter, and chatter that fill the rooms when we all gather.
