It is a tradition that dates back to 1875, when Ulysses Grant was in the White House. Back in the day, Yale and the Ivy schools dominated the college football scene. Then as it is now, it is a tradition at Yale to only elect one captain, no co-captains are selected. Every captain of every varsity sport is now photographed on the fence. In fact, George Herbert Walker Bush, the captain of the Yale baseball team, was photographed on the fence in 1948. In 2014, the tradition continues with the Ginger atop the rail with his Conan-like flow, white Y sweater and Yale Hockey gear. Hard not to grin when you see the image and it most certainly will be fodder for playful mockery from friends, teammates and this particularly proud parent.
