It is amazing how desperate people are for economic growth; they are willing to completely ignore the social implications. Even before coming to power, the BJP has displayed blatant bigotry; a proud refusal to respect the rights of minorities and not discriminate against those with choices other than themselves. And yet, not a peep out of Modi. The man who will put Pakistan in its place, as he keeps reminding us, will always, always be put in his place by the RSS and the VHP. If he actually tries shauchalaya before devalaya anywhere except in rally bombast, hell be gently told to bugger off, no pun intended. Remember, you cant vote for Modi as PM. Its not the US-style presidential ballot. You will have to vote for hundreds of belligerent, bigoted, intolerant, xenophobic, homophobic MPs first so that he can get there. You dont choose Modi. They do. He will have to toe their line. Even if his choices are different - if they ever are - youll never find out. His silence on article 377 makes that abundantly clear. Make no mistake. Minorities are screwed. Modi may not screw them himself. But hes very good at pretending not to notice when his boys do. Hope the growth is 8%.
