It is amazing how music is able to pluck at our heart strings and affect our lives so deeply. In the song, “The Old Rugged Cross Made A Difference”, there is a beautiful line that has moved me today. The lyric is, “....without hope death has wrapped them in gloom”. With all the deaths that we have encountered here in the High Arctic over the past couple of years, you can almost sense the hurt, anger and pain in peoples’ hearts. Healing does take time and during the times that we feel most vulnerable, I find we speak out in ways that once the words have come, you wish they could be taken back. It is hope that tends to pull us back on track: the hope of a feeling of normalcy; the hope that the pain from the loss will go away; and the hope that other loved ones can come to heal and move on to become what they were meant to be. Fear too often clouds our vision during these times and we build walls continuing to add to the feeling of being alone. This weekend, I hope that everyone takes the time to relax and reflect on what really matters. For those in need, I hope you reach out for help because we all, at one time or another need that help. For those on the other side of the equation, I hope you extend the hand of friendship and kindness to those who may be struggling.
