It is disturbing to see how the facts behind Koh Heer Ees exemption slip has been so blatantly distorted and politicised on social media (read: STOMP). A young teenager, through sheer effort and hard work, has achieved consistently excellent results and received a commendation from the school in the form of exemptions - yet some social media users see the need to politicise the issue by making accusations of strings being pulled, or even launch a personal attack on the poor boy. Do we need to go all out to discourage students from working hard so that they do not receive such unwanted attention? I trust that Heer Ee will be matured enough to turn a blind eye to the senseless comments and continue focusing on his education. I also hope that the other Hwa Chong students (especially my own cadets) can play their part by rejecting (in a sensible and polite manner) irresponsible comments from members of the public. Also, stop fanning the flames by posting unnecessary remarks/添油加醋. To the irresponsible social media users: blowing out someone elses candle does not make yours shine any brighter.
