It is hard for me to articulate how much the spread of Ebola into Sierra Leone concerns and frightens me. Ebola has a 90% fatality rate, no cure, and with the amount of illegal trade and commerce, artificial quarantines are likely to fail. Ive been in touch with some friends in Sierra Leone, and they are very worried, scared to be around anyone showing any symptoms of illness. Already, even with the virus only at the fringes of the country, fear has begun to spread. After the brutal decade-long conflict, Sierra Leone has made conscious efforts to seek out development, modernization, and equality. I fear that this virus, if it continues to spread, may not only destroy countless lives but the countrys progress, breaking the heart of a people still healing from a turbulent past.
