It is humbling to think how far we’ve come since Dr. Martin Luther King spoke from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to deliver a stirring speech that changed the world. Today, we honor his memory and the work to which he dedicated his life. During his famous remarks, Dr. King reminded us of what he called the “fierce urgency of Now.” As the march towards equality continues, I am particularly moved by these words today. We cannot accept a slow crawl towards marriage equality or protection in the workplace for LGBT Americans. And there is a fierce urgency to address the wage inequality that’s hurting working families across the country today. I look forward to continuing our march.
