It is important every day to remember those who were prisoners of war and those who are missing in action. Today, though, is National POW/MIA Recognition Day, and these gallant Americans deserve special recognition. A remembrance was held this morning in Soldiers Grove, next to the state Capitol. More than 83,000 Americans are missing from World War II, the Korean War, Cold War, Vietnam, and the 1991 Gulf War. As citizens of the United States, we must recognize the sacrifices made by these men, women, and their families for our freedoms. As noted in President Obama’s proclamation, “We will never forget their sacrifice, nor will we ever abandon our responsibility to do everything in our power to bring them home.”
