It is interesting that most literary pieces on the subject of reconstruction address the size of financial estimates necessary for an economic political project. This project will be designed to go back to square one following the changes that turned Syria’s clock back 60 years, and will turn Syria into a neoliberal economic model, only through foreign investments. This is as if the problems will be solved on their own by the invisible hands of the market (what market in a country that has been torn apart?) and away from the social and economic problems that were the trigger of the revolution. [...] Furthermore, most areas today have become self-administered, run by local councils and made up of locals. These councils have worked on providing public services to compensate for the absence of the state and its institutions, weakened by the war. Thus, the relationship between these local administrations and the central government will be totally different during the reconstruction period. People will no longer allow being controlled by certain authorities.
