It is interesting there have only been two cases that Mills has authorized the Governor to hire outside counsel if he choose to. One of the cases Mills did not represent him on he lost , after Mills told the governor the case had “little legal merit” and wouldnt be a good use of money. The Governor choose not to listen and paid nearly $53,000 out of the governor’s contingency fund and has said he may pursue it all the way to the supreme court. The other case has to do with general assistance to undocumented immigrants, Mills has said that LePage doesnt have the authority to implement the change in welfare regulations. He has also choose to hire the same law firm for that case. It will be interesting to see how much he spends on that and how it all plays out.
