It is my honor to share our Kaia girls story with you today! Rita - TopicsExpress

It is my honor to share our Kaia girls story with you today! Rita we love you! In her words..... As I look back over the year and count my blessings Kaia FIT Chico is at the top of the list. : ) Last year, my sister suggested we run the Portland Half Marathon together. In a weak (or maybe strong) moment, I signed up with her. I then spent the next two months wondering how I was ever going to complete 13.1 miles when I could not even make it around the block! On Jan 1st, I made a resolution to get in shape and complete that half. I emailed Laura at Kaia FIT Chico and explained that I was looking for a non-intimidating program that would accept me at the fitness level I was at, and help me to achieve my goals. Kaia FIT welcomed me with open arms and I have not once regretted the decision to join. In fact, Kaia FIT Chico has changed my life forever! I love that every workout is different and challenging in its own way. All workouts have three levels of modifications, so everyone is able to challenge themselves and work at their own intensity. Along with the workouts, there is also a nutrition component. I have never been successful on any type of diet, ever, so was very skeptical about this aspect of the Kaia program. The 2nd week after I started was “detox week”, which is all about cutting unhealthy foods from your diet and, more importantly, replacing them with healthy alternatives. I decided to commit completely to these eating requirements and even convinced a colleague to do it with me (after all, it was only for a week)! It was not easy at first, but I journaled everything I ate and I was never hungry as I had healthy options from which to choose. At the end of the week I was completely amazed by my increased energy levels and how good I felt. Even my skin felt fresher and younger! Because of that, it has been very easy to continue these good habits and to make them my new lifestyle! My journey has been fraught with road bumps. In February, just a few weeks after I joined, I broke my big toe (dropped an iPad on it!). I was devastated, but the Kaia coaches convinced me I could continue my journey by “clean” eating while healing. After only two weeks, I was able to return to working out because the coaches were willing to modify the workouts just for me. A month later, I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis in both of my knees. This was another speed bump on my road to fitness. Once again my coaches were there to support me and to show me how I could modify my workouts to make sure I did not damage my knees, while still strengthening my muscles. Not only did I complete the Portland half marathon in October, but also two metric century bike rides, a 10K and several 5Ks. And, I am looking forward to my next challenge whatever it might be! : ) I have lost 60 pounds and almost that many inches! But more important is what I have gained; strength, confidence in my abilities, friendships, the best Kaia coaches, and a Kaia family to call my own! I really like the person that now looks back at me from the mirror and I look forward to continuing my journey to fitness with Kaia FIT Chico! I can’t wait for my next workout! : ) ~Rita Nutsch
