It is no secret that dogs are highly intelligent and super intuitive. There is a reason dogs are trained as therapy dogs and for medical alerts. There are even diabetic alert dogs, trained to detect highs and lows in children even before a blood glucose test will register it. It appears our Foster dog, Dixie, has this special sense. She has become RIDICULOUSLY clingy and attached to Grace in the last several weeks since her diabetes diagnosis. The other night, she woke me up, pacing and scratching at my door and nudging my elbow at 2am. She wouldnt go away and she wouldnt let me sleep...to the point that we were checking the gas stove and the carbon monoxide detectors!!! When I finally let her out of my bedroom, she immediately went to Graces room, nudged her hand and laid down on the carpet. I tested Graces BG level and it was higher than usual, but not bad. Grace told me the next day that Dixie checked on her a couple of more times in the night as well. Crazy smart these dogs.
