It is nothing strange for anyone to feel, claim, profess or confess that he is a child of God. Every man in his right mind will definitely love to be called by God’s name. However, beyond our unstable feelings, mere profession or intellectual argument, the Scripture offers sure assurance of salvation and relationship with God. The Scripture also presents to us several distinctive traits or attributes to distinguish God’s children from the devil’s children.[1 John 3:10]. Much more, the Scripture plainly shows us how to renounce the devil and become a child of God. It is therefore possible to know without any iota of doubt whether you are a child of God or a child of the devil. And if a child of the devil, it is possible while still alive to disown or renounce the devil as your father and run to God’s waiting arms and embrace. Your eternal destiny or final abode after death depends entirely on who is your father now, whether God or the devil. If God, you will enjoy eternal rest with Him in heaven, but if the devil, you will suffer forever with him in hell fire. Unfortunately, we all are children of the devil by nature, for we were born as sinners and all sinners belong to the devil, for he is a father of sin (Romans. 5:19, 1 John 3:8, John 8:44). The Scripture testifies that we "were by nature children of wrath, just as the others." (Ephesians. 2:3). Therefore, it is a must for every man to make a conscious and deliberate personal decision to renounce the devil and choose God as his father through genuine repentance, acceptance and confession of Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour. Deliberate indecision or refusal to believe, receive and confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour is tantamount to voluntary and continuous acceptance of Satan as your father. Anyone who denies and refuses to believe or accept that Jesus is the Christ, the Saviour of the world, has also rejected God as his father and has no other choice than to accept Satan as his father and suffer with him throughout eternity in hell fire. The Scripture declares: “Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.” (1 John 2:23). Jesus says: "He who hates Me hates My Father also.” (John 15:23).
