It is our Perfectionist that often stops us from even attempting - TopicsExpress

It is our Perfectionist that often stops us from even attempting to accomplish something. What if someone sees that Im not perfect and holds me to account for that? If we PUSH ahead, in spite of and with our Perfectionist -we write that book, go on that stage, try that new thing - we become extremely vulnerable to the inevitable revelations of our imperfection and get hurt, defend ourselves, lash out at others, get in a fury towards ourselves. Instead, if we can begin to separate from our identification with the belief that we should be perfect and that perfection can be attained in the human realm, we feel much safer as we move through life. We accept ourselves as imperfect human beings who live in an imperfect real world, coming to terms with the beautiful and the terrible, with the unique and the ordinary, with our stasis and change, with our achievements and our defeats. We come to what may be our most kind position: perfectly good enough as we are.
