It is still so warm in Asingan, Philippines that I secretly wish I have a transporting machine ( Star Trek model ) so I can shuttle ack and forth from Toronto - Asingan then back again with the flick of switch. The Mall in Carmen Paangasinan is the place to spend time right now. There are tons of good looking clothes ( but remember dress sizes for Filipinas here at home is a tad smaller. Oh maybe I exagerrated a bit. But these are eye pleasing. Could not see them in clothes rack abroad. Yesterday we passed by the floor in Urdaneta where Miggie bought her garb as Mrs. Senior Asingan, 2013. Now we are looking for Mrs. Asingan 2014. there are other Christmas activities in here as in other towns elsewhere and all over the Christian countries. Mostly are dances, climaxed by the selection of the Christmas Queen. Or something like that. But everynight I believe there are already Christmas dances in many Barangays in town. I could tell by the fire works/ firecrackers sounds as if there are sporadic gunshot shootings. But never fear Asingans Finest are here - the police ready to serve and protect only just in case... I beleive there is peace and quiet all over Asingan and the neighbouring towns. Maybe its because it is almost Christmas. People will wait first what sort of present they get, then...:) Unlike US/Canada, gift giving is not generally done here except amongst families. But the big thing here is the food, yummy..Yesterday I already saw queso de bolas being displayed in high end grocery stores. Literally translated, it means balls of cheese. There are sooo many kinds of cheese sold in stores here. The most popular of course is the LECHON DE LECHE, the roasted young pig. Me? I prefer to munch on the Kraft processed cheese. Love the salty flavour which I enjoyed ever since i was a kid.. 5 weeks more and soon it will be MALIGAYANG PASKO here..( merry Christmas, if u wish to know the translation ) ..More and more storeowners are getting excited cuz there will be constant ringing of cash registers..Oooops, pardon me. Not many in Asingan use cash registers unlik the big cities. It is strictly cash only basis here in town. Thats why we always keep our change handy. The smallest denomination being used by many is the 1 peso coin. I have not seen a Filipino nickel or dime anymore..:)
