It is strange and sad knowing that you will never be a dad, or a father. Lewis Grizzrd said “it takes 5 minutes to be a father and a life time to be a dad”. I tried to be a rental dad to kids to fulfill the hole in my life and heart, a hole that will probably never be filled. I often wonder if ,”C”,” J”,” K”,” G”,” H” will remember me when they are older. And will as me try to just being a good guy, or girl to kids! Although I pretended in my mind to be a rental dad. Some of the kids had awesome parents but I always tried to in my mind to pretend to be a dad. Probably why I was so kind to them and did everything I could for them. From skateboarding to surfing to teaching them to cook, introducing them to pickled okra, and boiled peanuts (properly spelled P-nuts, if it isn’t spelled in the south that way they suck), shooting, roller coasters, swamps, water parks, teaching them sayings such as “cool beans”, I feel I did a good job, one time I took “C”, “G” ( a girl) “H” (also a girl) and one of their friends into the swamp at the end of the street. “C” (a boy) lost his shoes in the mud. G (the girl took her shoes off and although she had big feet tied them onto ‘C’. Then walked out of the swamp shoe less. “C” was 3 years younger than”G” and I had known her for a year more than “C”. I asked G after we got out why she did that? She said” I know you love “C” very much and you have been so kind to me I thought it was the right thing to do” I wish someday I will have kids, but I doubt it as I am pushing 46. The government should make a mentor day. I love my rental kids. “J” my first rental kid I have not talked to in 8 months. He is around 16 “K” chats with me on face book and is at a university He is around 18 now “H” the last time I heard is in Louisiana. She is around 16 now and I have seen her in 4 years “G “had a baby and is 17 now and I have not seen her in 3 years “C” now lives with his real dad in N.C., I am happy for him but I have not seen him in a year I love you all Pete
