It is the 50th Anniversary of Radio Caroline starting to broadcast in the North Sea. Loved listening to all the pop music of the day on it. There was no pop music on BBC at that time. When it was seen how popular it was BBC launched BBC Radio 1 in 1967 when the government outlawed offshore radio stations. That is when the offshore ones became Pirate Stations but they still had a huge following. The Boat That Rocked film which came out in 2009 was loosely based on the Pirate Radio stations.
