It is the DEAI’s great pleasure to announce that Carlin Lee, Developmental Educator with Department of Communities and Social Inclusion (Murray Bridge), was successful in winning the Singapore Industry Mentor Scholarship. Carlin works in Child and Youth Services and frequently provides support to students with autism spectrum disorders and their teachers. Carlin will travel to Singapore for one week early next year to be a mentor for the Practicum C students of the Bachelor of Disability and Developmental Education, who are undertaking a three week practicum at St Andrew’s Autism Centre, Singapore (saac.org.sg/). Her skills and expertise will enable her to be a great mentor to the Practicum students and also be of great benefit to students and staff of the centre. Saint Andrew’s Autism Centre is a non-profit, integrated Centre for the education, training, care and support of individuals with autism and their families. The Centre covers a wide range of ages and disability and is a leader in the field. The DEAI extends its gratitude to Lecturer Greg Carey from Disability and Community Inclusion (DCI), Flinders University, who offered this opportunity for collaboration. The scholarship consist of $1500 from the Colombo Scholarship (a Federal Government initiative) and $250 from the DEAI. The DEAI is planning an event in March for the students and Carlin to tell us about their experiences and share some of the knowledge they have gained at St Andrew’s Autism Centre.
