It is time for government to take over MRT and fix the long standing problems of the train system. In the meantime, DOTC and the private investors and private maintenance firm APT should be held accountable for the poor state of the train system that has been described as an accident waiting to happen. Taxpayers are paying $1.3 million or P57 million every month to the private maintenance firm APT. What happened to these payments? Taxpayers are also paying the private investors of MRT as much as P5-6 billion a year in financial obligations. Private profits are guaranteed. Yet train services are dismal and commuters are made to suffer. There is no upgrade The privatization of the train system has failed commuters time and again. It is time to end this policy.
