It is true that some lecturers at Makerere miss classes not - TopicsExpress

It is true that some lecturers at Makerere miss classes not because they are on strike, or because they are busy elsewhere doing consultancy work or just at home lazying around, twiddling with their hands but because they do not have any money for transport to the university. And it is not because they are poor planners, that they get money and spend all of it at once, but because they are paid once in six months and expected to deliver as if they receive payment monthly. Some of these lecturers have no material ambitions, all they wish for is a roof over their head and food to keep them going. And these are often the most hardworking lecturers. If the university could house them, feed them, clothe them, it would not have to mind about monthly pay. They are that dedicated to their jobs. They do not even support strikes. They care less about the promises of tenure. They just want to be able to do their job. To teach. So they miss classes because all the money they had saved, has been used to service their employment at a university that never wonders how its academic staff survive! They will not even hand in results in time, because they have no internet bundles at home, to send the results. They are not witholding the results, they are not laying down tools, they have simply been rendered incapable of delivering by the universitys non-payment of salaries. Does the university administration invest this money somewhere to get profit? What happens in truth?
