It is unfortunate that I have been deemed “too liberal” to any longer comment on the stories in The Salt Lake Tribune—If I had not, I would be making this statement there. However, (for whatever reason) I have been banned. (It’s actually sort of a badge of honor.) Nevertheless, I feel to post a kind word about someone most U of U grads and fans (of which I am both) have chosen to “hate,” namely, the former BYU quarterback, Max Hall. Whatever he became to us in the aftermath of his infamous public lashing out at Utah Fans, he is today a broken man who deserves our human compassion, our prayers, our best wishes, or whatever it is we are able to offer up in his behalf. Such a tragedy in anyone’s life—even someone whom we have chosen to mock after his earlier moments of greatness—is a tragedy just the same. I don’t know Max, but I, for one, wish him recovery, hope, blessings, and whatever will help him to recover himself to resume his role as a husband, father, son, brother and friend. My heart goes out to Max.
