It is well known that I just recently started Q (as well as myself, because I would never make him try out something new that I am not willing to try also) on a new diet: Gluten-Free/Additive-Free/Dye-Free. Hell, I may even try Dairy-Free, if the doctors’ recommend that next. Medicating him is the LAST Avenue I will take, hence the EXTREME diet change. I talk about things that pertain to this matter frequently on both Facebook and Instagram, mostly IG because I am most active on that account. It is known that Q is ADHD/Dyslexic. He is very aware and educated on his diagnosis and knows his strengths and weaknesses. I always say that knowledge is power, and it is!! It is no longer referred to as ADD, but mostly only people that are very familiar and knowledgeable in the field would even know that. Something extremely ignorant came across me today that was absolutely mind-blowing. A mother directly (but indirectly) challenging me, and the proactive steps I take to ensure my son’s well-being. There are two types of mothers. A mother that advocates for her child(ren), and then there are the ones that don’t. We all know what kind I’m talking about, the ones that takes the easier way out. I am DEFINITELY a mother that goes hardcore for hers! I have been fortunate enough to be able to send Q to the best-of-the-best schools that specialize in ADHD/Dyslexia. He is getting beyond an AMAZING education that the public schools aren’t capable of giving ANY child, no matter their intellectual ability. Q has an above average IQ (a test professionally conducted by a psychiatrist…and yes, that is an MD for those that are unaware). His school is for the academically gifted and they push him to reach his furthest potential. So when a mother (or lack-there-of) judges the next on their ability to make sound decisions for their child, especially the decisions one takes that are medically recommended by a MEDICAL DOCTOR, it really makes you question their morality. So before you go giving your opinion on how others shouldn’t give opinions…make sure you are THOROUGHLY educated on the matter. Everything you read on the Internet is not created equally. A peer-reviewed article or scholarly article holds a little more clout than, let’s say, a Mommy Blog. It is well-known medical knowledge that ADHD symptoms can be reduced through DIET!! If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it twice..DIET IS EVERYTHING! The advice I give is specific to MY child’s needs. The advice I give has been given to me by MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS, as well as the professional knowledge I have in the field…being that I am a professional with professional training in both the health and behavioral fields, as they very closely overlap. It is what I do for a living. NOT to mention, I will be attending Graduate School for Special Education to even further my professional knowledge on the subject. I give the professional advice I have been given over the years of actually dealing, hands-on, with ADHD, etc. Like I said, I advocate for mine. So this is for all the mothers out there that have a child with a LD, behavioral problems, special needs, WHATEVER the case may be, when dealing with uneducated, simple-minded, bumbling idiots that give their judgmental two-cents on how YOU raise YOUR children, remember, they are just that…a bumbling idiot!
