It is with a heavy heart that we tell you that sweet little Pudge - TopicsExpress

It is with a heavy heart that we tell you that sweet little Pudge is fighting for his life today. Dr. Hay, the surgeon that performed his Bladder Stone and Liver Shunt surgery says the next few days will be critical to his survival. Pudge had some pre-seizure activity today (mini-seizures) and has been placed on IV medications, fluids and nourishment to help him. We are all praying that things will stabilize and not get worse. We have asked Dr. Hay to have Pudge transferred to the Tampa Bay Emergency Clinic over the weekend where he will receive 24 hour care. Dr. Hay has also agreed to make himself available to the Emergency Clinic over the weekend , in the event of questions or concerns. Now all we can do is wait, worry and pray. Pug Rescue of Florida will be here for Pudge no matter what you do but if you have the ability to donate to help us pay Pudge’s vet bills, please do . Not everyone can donate but EVERYONE can send prayers and positive energies to Pudge tonight. He needs them. WE ARE NOT VETS BUT WE WANT TO SAY: PLEASE LET PUDGE’S STRUGGLE BE A LIGHT OF HOPE FOR ANOTHER DOG. So many dogs (not just pugs) have bladder stone issues and/or liver shunts. If your dog has a reoccurring UTI that is not being treated with the proper antibiotic (often only determined by a urine culture and/or your dog has blood in their urine, your vet needs to rule out bladder stones. Most but not all stones show up on x-rays. If X-ray shows no stones but your dog still has issues, consider doing an ultrasound to determine the problem. If you there are bladder stones that are urinated out or removed by surgery, do not throw them away! Do a stone pathology to determine what kind of stones your dog had so you can prevent them in the future (can be as simple as prescription dog food). Also, so you will know if there might be a bigger problem causing the stones, such as a liver shunt.
