It is with extreme sorrow that we announce the untimely death of our peer, co-worker, friend and colleague. Jason Collett at the age of 39 years was taken from his family and his friends. The past two years we were surrounded by his empathy and his focused care for those around him. Whether Jason was waving at you from a crane tower over metrotown, pruning a tree, or working through some written exercises with a client, he was kind, courteous, considerate and diligent. His love for recovery turned his life into an adventure full of activities like attending meetings, concerts, eating steaks or riding his motorcycle! During a conversation with Jason he always considered your contribution to the discussion. We watched with pride as he earned his volunteer Search and Rescue credentials and encouraged him as he enrolled in University. He lived life to the full and leaves a full sized hole in our hearts. We extend our deepest condolences to his children, siblings and parents with our thanks for having shared him with us. We have grown because of him and will grow more as we learn from this most devastating experience. May we carry him in memory. Jason had been with Last Door since April 2012, he currently was working as a Crane Operator by day and as an Evening Support Worker at Last Door’s long term transitional living facility, he was also a certified Search and Rescue Volunteer. In the interest of respecting the privacy of the family and not hampering the ongoing police investigation …. Last Door has no further comments at this time. Last Door Recovery Centre operates the Naniamo Street facility as a transitional living residence for clients who have completed five months or more of Primary Care Treatment. Last Door has been providing addiction treatment in New Westminster for 30 years and has never experienced an incident of this nature. We hope that everyone will respect our clients need for privacy by not targeting them for information or comments. We urge anyone who may have information pertaining to this case to please contact the New Westminster Police Department at (604) 525-5411. Thank you to the many Alumni who have been stopping by.
