It is with great emotion, and with the help of Patricia Bernard, - TopicsExpress

It is with great emotion, and with the help of Patricia Bernard, Chief of the Maliseet First Nation, that I have made a very important announcement this week. A day like this makes us think about the journey that has taken us here. Ti-Loup, our mascot, came into my life in 2011, when my spouse was working for the NB SPCA. He received a call in regards to a stray dog. At 6-7 weeks he only weighed about 5-6 lbs. He was in rough shape. After the allotted 72 hour waiting period, (due to the absence of a shelter) he had to be put down. Go through with this?-Not I. Since my spouse was working for the NB SPCA, we were not allowed to adopt him. I found a way. One of my friends paid the fine, purchased a dog tag, registering him under her name in order to keep him. He’s never left my side. I then met Line Desrosiers, sharing the same passion as I have for animals, but most of all dogs, as well as Nadia Sénéchal, with a heart of gold, who would’ve done anything in her power to help a cat in need. Instead of waiting to have the funds to build a shelter, in march 2012 we decided to launch an online shelter, working out of foster homes. We wanted to give a 2nd chance to stray animals, by providing appropriate care and a roof over their heads. We simply could not wait. It all started with one adoption, then two and the rest is history. Since our beginning, many people have contributed to the success of this project. I thank each and every one of you, who have helped us get to this point. -Line, words aren’t enough, thank you for joining me on this wild ride and for not giving up. Little woman who I wanted to help, who turned out to be like a sister to me. -Nelson, what a great addition you have been to our team. Protector of his colleagues what amazing work you have done in so little time! -Geneviève, ouff... I am not sure how to start other than with Where have you been all my life?” Thank you for being cool headed and for being so organised. -Tina C. I am glad to know that I can depend on you. If I had a twin, it would be you! -Catherine, THANK YOU!!! I thank our dear Lord for bringing Red into my life. What did we do before you joined us? A lot, but no one knew! You were able to achieve what no one else could. -Kevin, who would’ve thought that Catherine was a package deal. What a great gift! Thank you for all your work. You guys are a great team and I am grateful to have you with us. -Hélène tall little piece of woman bursting with energy, giving the Shelter a relatable face that people recognise. Your smile in contagious, never stop. -Suzie, Mmmm! On top of baking cakes, you even smell like cupcakes lol. Thank you for your commitment, the world needs people like you who are not afraid to roll up their sleeves and work hard. -Montassir, thank you for your advice. During our little panic attacks, OK... MY panic attacks, I am really happy to be able to call your number! I can’t wait to have an office for you where you can really do your work and care for our animals. -Robert, thank you for your engagement. It’s not everybody who would be willing to move things around over 50 times! But what can I say, women change their minds a lot! -Megane, young lady with a heart of gold. I don’t know what I would do without you. Thanks to your mom, for letting you be part of this experience with me. -Marie-Josée, I’ve told you recently, the day you decided to adopt Oskar, was the best day of his life, and the day you chose to join us, was one of our best days. Thank you for your availability, your laughter and your constant support. -Norma, Thank you for being who you are. Your experience and your connections have proven to be nothing but great assets for us all. You are encircled by the people of the community and you have opened many doors for us. -Tina F.L. You are the reason that Trish as made this announcement with me. Thank you. Thank you for keeping your little baby and for being there for me every time I need your help. -Eloïse, you got involved on the fly and you are the incarnation of serenity, God knows it’s what I need most! Thank you for being so peaceful. This is my rock solid team! I am surrounded by competent, committed and passionate people. But I am also privileged enough to have the support of a community as a whole. Without the community, the Shelter wouldn’t be. Thank you for following us, for sharing our activities and the pictures of our adoptable babies… and the list goes on. Our Shelter, from online, to real life, brought to you by everyone who participates in this cause, from near or far. The November 25th 2013 announcement is the first of many joyful events to come, leading to the opening of a permanent animal shelter in our region. THANK YOU!! Four paws, two hands, one heart, one and only Refuge Madawaska Shelter. Christine Landry President
