It is with heavy heart that I join all Nigerian youths and other Nigerians to mourn the unfortunate death of young Nigerians who in a bid to secure employment to make a living and contribute to national development responded to NIS recruitment exercise where their lives were cut short in a stampede. This incident is clearly a failure of government at all levels. The old generation is clearly out of ideas on how to raise this nation from its present hopelessness. I believe that time has come for them to admit their failure. Centenary anniversary celebration this year marked the end of an era that began 100 years ago. The centenary awards given to reward those who played various roles- both good and bad- in our country’s 100 years journey is an indication that Nigeria has signed off on the old politicians and needs a new beginning- a new kind of political leadership that inspires hope and possibility. The awarding of prizes marks the end of every game and the game that began 100 years ago has been concluded with the 2014 centenary award. That is why I believe that in 2015 we will begin a new Nigeria of possibilities; a new Nigeria of visionary political leadership that inspires hope and possibility not one that promotes death. This new Nigeria will begin in Abia State come 2015. I believe we are entering the most exciting period in our political history- a momentous period filled with hope and possibilities; possibility for a new approach to our socioeconomic challenges as a nation, possibility for a change in our attitude to political leadership and political participation, possibility for inspiring a new confidence in every Nigerian, and possibility for ending unemployment and underemployment, insecurity and corruption. We stand today between two worlds- the dying world of the old politicians with all its failures and the emerging new world of visionary political leadership with all its possibilities. Some may argue that we are living in the most disastrous and hopeless period of our nationhood. They will cite the recent stampede and death of young Nigerian job seekers during NIS recruitment exercise, the cruel menacing and politically motivated boko haram bloodshed in Northern part of the country, the politics of bitterness and hate of APC and PDP old politicians, the entrenched corruption and visionlessness of the old politicians and the failure in virtually every sector of our economy. They may contend that Nigeria is on the brink of collapse. But far from representing collapse, these challenges represent the tragic midnight which will usher in a beautiful dawn in Nigeria come 2015. I am grateful to God Almighty who has empowered us to be the generation that will lift Nigeria from its present hopelessness and backwardness. Our generation is unique. In which other generation would my story have been possible? That a young man like me will be contesting the Governor of a state- I have not circulated among the big politicians nor have I amassed wealth from government contract, neither have I spent time to learn the kind of politics our old politicians play. Yet here I am running for the Governor of Abia State and having the confidence that in 2015 we will win a resounding victory in Abia State. I believe that in another 100 years from now when this nation will congregate again to reward courageous deeds, this generation will produce men and women whose names will adorn the pages of history and honor. Perhaps our generation will be the generation that brings Nigeria to world prominence. Perhaps we will be the generation that solved our political leadership problems; that has confidence in our ability to lay a solid foundation for Nigeria’s socioeconomic development for the benefit of all Nigerians. Perhaps we will be the generation that provided 24 hours electricity to every Nigeria home; perhaps we will be the generation that inspired Nigerians to build innovative technology that will bring the world to our shores; the generation that ended unemployment, underemployment, insecurity and youth restiveness. Perhaps we will be the generation that banished hunger, poverty, disease, politics of hate, terrorism, militancy, kidnapping and gross insecurity. The award givers of that time, with pride and sense of honor, will call our generation the glorious generation of Nigeria’s nationhood. If these things must happen, you and I will decide it in 2015. Abia State is the center of that decision in 2015. Friends, Abia State holds the key to Nigeria’s greatness. This nation will not rise until Abia State rises because we are God’s own state, the number one state in this country. That is why my candidacy for the Governor of Abia State is not just an Abia State affairs, it is a national youthful movement. I don’t care which part of the country you come from or what your political allegiance is, we can’t afford not to win in Abia State; we can’t afford not to record a ground breaking victory in 2015. As we mourn the tragic death of the young Nigerians, let us remember that what led to their death will not go away until we make a resounding statement through the ballot box in 2015. I am committed to the change we need. I am committed to the good life every Nigerian deserves. Let the death of these young Nigerians to reach out the more as we draw near to the crucial 2015. Abia State is ready to rise in 2015. I believe we can make this change happen. Let’s be the generation that gets it right. God bless Nigeria.
