It is wonderful to make the children happy and to make people feel cherished and special, but our society has gotten out of control with debt spending. The kids have the parents hostages, held to a standard they cannot afford. In order to remain competitive and not be bullied by friends, kids feel the need to stay current with very expensive object. Parents are so overworked in the economy, that they use games as babysitters and much more. Everyone means well but we are everywhere but present. Social media and our phones give us dopamine hits and a false sense of connectedness and make mindfulness and presence much more difficult, with so much distraction and temptation. Men are helping more at home, but we are kidding ourselves, with so many magazine covers and other pressures to bake and make the most stylish, perfect holiday. All is lost in spirituality-sacrificed, time lost with family. We use holidays as a good reason to get together with those we love and forget tragedy and set aside differences for a bit, if we are sane. Goodwill is to reign, but instead people are murdered over a cheap flat screen tv sale. We have lost our minds.
