“It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer,” Jesus said concerning the church (Matthew 21:13). He was quoting from the Book of Isaiah where this was written. But how often do we hear people refer to the house of God as the house of prayer? My observation has been that a local church’s regularly scheduled meeting for corporate prayer is the least attended of all regularly scheduled opportunities for worship. In over 30 years of preaching and pastoring, I have not come across one exception to this statement, though there may be a few. In order for the church to be the extraordinary force on earth that God has placed us here to be, the house of God needs to become the house of prayer.
