It looks like the Pacific Pet Alliance has been idle but we have been busy with the opening of the Hawaii State Legislature. A vital part of the work of the PPA is to promote advocacy for animals through education. We encourage everyone to get involved and let our legislators know how you stand on the issues. To join our legislative efforts, please email us at pacificpetalliance@gmail. We look forward to hearing from you! Please share our posts on your timelines so people are aware of whats going on in Hawaii! We have submitted testimony in support of: HB 1420: Uniform identification for service/therapy dogs. This bill attempts to address the problem of people trying to pass off their pets as service dogs. Status: Passed with amendments. HB 1544: Allowing dogs in State Parks. Status: Deferred (dead) The official committee report is still pending but according to DNLRs William Aila, dogs on leashes, under control of their owners, with owners responsible for their actions & clean up are already allowed in parks. He did not feel additional legislation was needed. Good news! SB 2502: Regarding registration of vet techs. Status: Pending a review by the State auditor to see if it is necessary. The PPA felt that this profession is under recognized for the work that they do. With the opening of the new school for veterinary technicians, we hope that this legislation will help them achieve the recognition they deserve.
