It made me sad this morning to wake up and read of the loss of WashU economist Murray Weidenbaum. I got several chances to know him over the years, and he was a great gentleman, scholar, a thoughtful and modest, moderate person. As this article points out, he put facts in front of ideology, a welcome throw-back to the era he came from. He served five US Presidents, from Truman to GW Bush, and was Reagans economic advisor. I wont ever forget the night I spent having dinner with him, when he told me about his days in the White House; he was very forthcoming, honest, thoughtful. stltoday/news/local/obituaries/murray-weidenbaum-dies-leading-conservative-economist-taught-students-at-washington/article_0b3d9226-6509-598c-b24d-2b4897349ff4.html
