It may be early, but hey, why not?! Ladies and Gentlemen, may we cordially introduce NMBT’s Friday Featured Background Talent, Kyton Blair Kyton has worked on Sicario, Better Call Saul, Longmire, Blood Father and The Messengers. NMBT: How did you get into background work or what was your first background gig? KYTON: I kind of just fell into it, to be completely honest. I read an article about a movie being filmed here this summer and at the bottom it said to click the link if the reader wanted to be in the movie. I had my doubts but went ahead and replied. To my surprise, I received a call less than forty eight hours later during which they asked me to be an extra on Longmire. NMBT: What movie(s) influenced you most and why? KYTON: Wow, how do I answer that....? There are really too many movies to list. One of my favorite movies of all time would have to be the first Matrix. The story, the cinematography, the choreography.....everything about the movie was amazing. However, there are many, many movies spanning all genres and countless actors that I appreciate. I quote movies daily, as they contain words of wisdom applicable to most of lifes situations. Quentin Tarantino, Samuel L. Jackson, Steve Buscemi, Jason Statham, Edward Norton, Sean Connery, Guy Ritchie, Gerard Butler, Troy Duffy, Norman Reedus, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Salma Hayek, Jean Reno, Audrey Tautou, Denzel Washington, Bruce Willis....just to name a tiny fraction of people who have inspired me. NMBT: What television show(s) influenced you most and why? KYTON: Well, most recently, I was immersed in House, M.D. Hugh Laurie portrays the title character so well, personifying the genius of the character as well as his utter indifference to anything mundane or unrelated to the puzzle of diagnostics. The level of intelligence required to simply portray any of the shows characters is impressive alone. NMBT: What was the strangest or most funny experience youve had on set as Background Talent? KYTON: I was cast recently as an extra on a certain television show and I was a “patient” so I brought wardrobe fitting the role. However, they ended up using me for a bar scene later and since I didnt have anything with me to wear for a bar scene I was forced to do the scene wearing the pajama pants. So I had to stay on the opposite side of the pool table from the cameras to avoid showing the pants. We made it work, though. Improvisation! NMBT: What are your future plans with regards to your career with the New Mexico film industry? KYTON: I enjoy being a background actor. I wouldn’t mind continuing to be background as well as the possibility of some speaking roles. I recently had my first audition and I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I was also recently scouted for some voiceover work and that seems to be something I would enjoy as well. I enjoy working with so many talented people, from actors and background, to the crews and all the casting agencies that have given me these awesome opportunities. You are all great! Keep up the good work!
