It must be 6 or 7 years ago I met a scrawny odd looking worm bellied filly in a paddock not far from here. I dont know what it was about her funny little face and floppy curious ears but I outbid the dog price for her and walked her home.... I have to admit I called her Eeyore for the longest time but as she gradually came back to health a gorgeous young mare emerged that I bred to the darling stallion I had on lease at the time (Bevanlee After Dark). All was ticking away nicely until she developed a complication from the prior neglect that caused the soles of both front feet to slough off.... months of nursing her and creating space boots to keep her comfy and mobile paid off and she delivered the most divine filly..... Holly and her precious baby Ivy.... Another against the odds story! Ivy is now a great big grown up girl and has not long scanned in foal herself. Shes a replica of her mum in temperament and type. A beautiful soul. But I digress.... so Ellie is a roller coaster of hormones one day she tolerates Ernie, the next I have to be his bodygaurd as she just wants to flatten him. He really needs horse interaction time and as much as he likes Justin (the stallion) thats just not an ideal paddock mate for him. Ive been wracking my brains trying to figure how to integrate him into the herd. I should have just asked the girls themselves.... Of all the ones to decide she liked him it would be my little maiden mare Ivy wouldnt it? Now shes a strapping big lass, deep barrel powerful mare - an easy 450kg girl. Hes tipping the scales at around 16.5kgs.... You can imagine my heart was in my throat introducing them today..... She gave that deep throaty nicker as I led her towards him and gently nudged him. He, after some less than friendly encounters with his mum, is very worried still but I think this might work.... Ill keep ticking away at it. She wont be able to feed him but even just a horse to look after him is perfect! What a dear mare ... She just wanted to clean him this afternoon. Shes incredible.
