It never rains but pours for my beloved country. It is very much - TopicsExpress

It never rains but pours for my beloved country. It is very much disturbing to learn that Senior Doctors have also joined their Junior counterparts in downing their tools. The heath system in Zimbabwe is already severely crippled by the shortage of Doctors. Honestly the strike by these professionals who provide such an essential service to the nation seem to be under-estimated. I can imagine how many Lives are going to be lost as a consequence of all this. Patients were being turned away from most major government hospitals such as Parirenyatwa Hospital and Harare Central Hospital. The strikes started on the 27th of October and obviously because of poor pay and working conditions. Money is not important here but honestly if Doctors are getting less than US300 dollars salary a month what can one expect. It is not only an insult to the profession but it is a gross under-estimation of their role in society. Reportedly the Doctors have been seeking audience with President Mugabe to have their issues resolved but my question is; Do they surely need to see a President for that? Where is the Minister of Health? Where is the Secretary for Health? It is crystal clear someone is not doing his or her job here. I cant believe we have sunk so low and all of a sudden we have thrown Respect for Lives into the bin! What is the point of telling even your kids that you are the Minister of Health when people are dying of avoidable causes right in front of your eyes? The Zimbabwean Media are busy focusing on trivial issues centred on Political Party Power struggles. Fellow journalists, ma comrades and colleagues, where are your priorities as scribes? Stop making a mockery of Journalism and expose issues that affect you and me, our grand fathers and grand mothers, our fathers and mothers, our brothers and sisters, our unborn and newly born babies are dying! As Alan Paton once said..Cry My Beloved Country. God bless Zimbabwe! God bless Africa!
