It never rains in Southern California, but you can’t say that - TopicsExpress

It never rains in Southern California, but you can’t say that about Owensboro, Kentucky. We had planned a 20 to 25 mile ride today in Owensboro, starting on the extreme end of the beltway at Miller’s Mill Road and riding all the way to Smother’s Park and back. The route as planned would have been between 21 and 22 miles, plus any side trips to get to 25 miles. All was well on the way to downtown, but I noticed some darkening skies as we approached Smothers Park. We spent about ten minutes (at the most) at the park before departing because the skies were getting darker and it was thundering. About a mile later I somehow picked up a canvas strap in the rerailer that locked up my shifter and kicked everything into neutral. So, I stopped to clean it out of the gears, and of course, it was shredded by this time. I finally got it cleaned out so we could try to beat the rain to Legion Park and shelter, it was lightening and thundering. We made it before the first downpour, barely. We rode out the first under shelter, thank goodness. When the rain stopped and the sun came back out (can you say sauna?) we took off on the bikes. By this time I thought it a good idea to change our course back to Miller Mill Road to a straighter and shorter route. Good thing, because we rode the last 3 miles of our 17 ½ mile trek in the sunshine --- AS IT POURED RAIN AT THE SAME TIME. But I have to admit, it was fun, wet fun, but fun none the same. After loading the bikes on the car and a change of clothes we consoled ourselves with dinner at Cheddar’s Casual Café. It’s amazing what a bowl of their Loaded Potato Soup and Chicken Tenders will do to a drowned out psyche.
