It released 3 days after my promotion to Chief Engineer came through. In 1996 was so happy as having not to not type on a typewriter with 3 carbon papers and also save my requisition and correspondence for later use. Bought the first PC named Compaq Presario for the ship with my own money- which was an all in one so never really got to see the inside of a CPU. Later assembled my own PC in 1998 which lasted till few years back with constant 6 monthly upgrade of hardware and software. Still retain it with IDE and the older version of HDDs and 3.5 diskettes. Was fun to watch the past 19 years learning and evolving with MS products . Windows 95 was directly responsible for the education to hardware which has actually come handy in handling almost 10 networked PCs on board and almost equal No. connected to Loadicator, Cargo monitoring and control system, M/E PC , Engine Room Alarm and Monitoring system, Radar, ECDIS you name it. Very often I suggest that Bill Gates taught more than the DMET lecturers.
