It remains a crisis situation @ Cato Crest in Durban where Abahlali baseMjondolo member Nkululeko Gwala was killed 3 months ago + the ANC government has illegally destroyed many homes. Yesterday 3 Abahlali members were shot with rubber bullets by the leader of the Land Invasion Unit according to witnesses. 1 remains in critical condition. Also at least 18 more shacks were illegally demolished despite 5 court interdicts prohibiting the city from doing so. Today lawyers from the Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa (SERI) needed to be accompanied by 100 Abahlali members to ensure their safety while consulting with residents in the area. The media in South Africa is largely silent about this brutal and increasingly authoritarian behavior of the ruling ANC party.
